The Frank Mohr Institute (FMI) at Minerva Art Academy (Hanze UAS) offers an international Master of Arts in Fine Art and Design, with three study programmes to choose from: Painting, MADtech - Media, Art, Design & Technology and iRAP - Interrelational Art Practices.
Whether you are an artist, designer or performer, our study programmes offer an experimental and critical environment in which to further envisage and shape your ideas. Situated in the vibrant city centre of Groningen, this master’s programme offers you every opportunity to sharpen your artistic vision, find new pathways and discover uncharted territory.
The two studio-based programmes; Painting and MADtech; being open 24/7, span two years and comprise 120 credits (ECTS). Each curriculum has its distinct focus, in the field of painting, on the one hand, and in technologically mediated relationships in society, on the other. Their common ground is that both reinforce the artistic professional in a rapidly changing society.
New to the master is the interRelational Art Practices (iRAP) programme. In this highly reflective programme, students develop artistic practices from diverse contexts outside the direct sphere of influence of the arts. Students question the context as a force field of which they are also part. They intervene, creating new perspectives and possibilities for action. You will develop your own way of dealing with societal issues, and/or work in correspondence and dialogue with partners in or outside the art world. You will do this within society, together with people who aren’t artists and use your interrelational artistic practice and strategies to connect, to involve, to develop collaboration or participation. Part of the focus in iRAP will be on environmental, ecological and sustainability-related topics.
The MA in Fine Art and Design is an international master’s degree programme, with internationally recognized and accredited study programmes. Situated in a rich cultural city in the north of the Netherlands, you can find art, design and culture at every corner. Public transport takes you to all cultural highlights sprinkled throughout the country.

Highlights of the programmes:
–Shared community kitchen and studio space for Painting and MADtech students.
–Fourteen workshops, providing a diverse range of materials, machines and techniques, such as 3D printers, large format laser cutter, CNC, Riso Duplicator, embroidery machine and digital workstations with plotters.
–Strong connections with the Research Centre Art & Society and the University of Groningen.
–Develop your professional and artistic practice with assignments from the Project Bureau.
–Group study trips to relevant art institutions, fairs and events, both abroad and in the Netherlands.
–Exchange partners, including the Master of Fine Arts programmes at Hunter College, the City University of New York and the School of Design in Philadelphia.
–Presentation and discussion of your work at public events, exhibitions and lectures.
–Strong connection with the professional field in the form of (guest) lecturers and alumni.
–Graduation Show and catalogue.
