An Instagram account dedicated to new art
March 1–December 31, 2021
What is the take of contemporary artists on these singular and unpredictable times? Every week, an artist from the French scene presents their reading of the present changes, as expressed in images.
“Nouvelles distances” (New Distances) is the theme that best sums up the situation: physical and virtual distances, both chosen and imposed, in spaces both internal and external. The word distance indicates discrepancies and differences, but also the ground to be covered to get from one point to another. And, in the figurative sense, one could say that this distance is also what connects two points that are apart but of the same nature.
The Jeu de Paume, together with the Ministry of Culture, is supporting artists by commissioning works for Instagram. From March to December 2021, no less than 42 artists and 11 curators will work in this creative laboratory as contributors to this exciting new programme conceived specially for @jeudepaumelab. This month, after “Abris temporaires” (temporary shelters) and “SOMA,” Jeu de Paume Lab invites you to discover “Etonnantes proximités” (astonishing proximities).
