Solitude Haus 3
Stuttgart
Germany
International, transdisciplinary, hybrid: Akademie Schloss Solitude is an artists’ residence in Stuttgart/Germany that affords artists and scientists from all over the world valuable freedom to develop their work and perform research in both a physical and digital context. Over the course of the past year—as part of its 30-year anniversary, which coincided with a global pandemic—Akademie Schloss Solitude developed alternative formats and platforms for collective and decentralized knowledge production. It is our aim to make the results of these discourses globally visible and accessible within the digital sphere. We therefore invite you to immerse yourself in our online space to experience digital artworks from our web residents, as well as to browse our vast offers of streamed lectures and discussions as well as articles from our publications.
Online lecture: “Beyond Stucco: The Architectures of Commodified Housing” by Ana Filipovic
April 23, 2021, 7pm
Since the turn of the millennium, the housing sector has been developing at a rapid pace from being a common good into a vehicle for profit accumulation. In a conversation with Anh-Linh Ngo, editor-in-chief of ARCH+ magazine, architect and artist Ana Filipovic will explore the question what spatial embodiments such a profit-oriented logic produces.
Register to attend via Zoom at register [at] akademie-solitude.de.
The online event takes places within the framework of the exhibition Beyond Walls – Über Grenzen hinaus, presented by Akademie Schloss Solitude on the occasion of its 30th anniversary at Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. Publication: Untranslatable Terms of Cultural Practices – A Shared Vocabulary
Akademie Schloss Solitude’s jubilee publication proposes a new vocabulary of terms that remain untranslated in their original language and enrich our vocabulary. These are words that convey cultural practices, attitudes and value systems and are explained from their respective language and word canon. It makes global knowledge systems visible and promotes the accessibility of valuable everyday practices.
Every week a new term will be published online on our website.
You can also order a printed copy here.
Solitude Journal 2: On the Occult and the Supernatural
With the upcoming issue of Solitude Journal we address artistic practices that look at the hermetic tradition and alternative communication systems inspiring change. It presents a variety of artistic positions, where artistic research borders with practical magic. In spiritual terms of the Solitude Journal, we acknowledge an ongoing surge of interest in artists seeking the invisible.

Lecture series: “Transformation—Unfolding the Future”
The series brought together international scientists and artists who make significant contributions on the question of how we want to shape our society and our coexistence. In their research, they raise questions on new concepts for social transformations, political invention and solidarity. The role that artists and artistic production plays in the unfolding of the future is at the core of the lecture and workshop series.

Webinar: “Nepantlas: Infrastructures for World-building”
Curated by Daphne Dragona
“Nepantlas” was a cluster of online talks focusing on “architectures” and infrastructures—social and technological—based on relations of care, respect and interdependence. The title is inspired by the work of Gloria Anzaldúa who uses the Nahuatl word “Nepantla” to express the potential of spaces lying in between, at the cracks between worlds.
