Laure Prouvost: Our elastic arm hold in tight through the claouds
April 21 – August 8, 2021
This spring, Kunsthal Charlottenborg reopens with the first solo exhibition in Scandinavia with Turner Prize–winning artist Laure Prouvost.
For Our elastic arm hold in tight through the claouds, Prouvost will transform Kunsthal Charlottenborg’s entire north wing into a labyrinthine and otherworldly installation. Conceived as a total experience, centered around a new video installation co-commissioned with the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) in Melbourne, the exhibition will introduce audiences to the spirited, absorbing and frequently humourous hallmarks of Prouvost’s diverse artistic practice. The exhibition is curated by Henriette Bretton-Meyer. Further info here.
MFA degree show: Afgang 2021
April 21 – May 23, 2021
Afgang 2021 is the annual exhibition for the graduates from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ Schools of Visual Arts. The exhibition celebrates and presents works created by the new talents from the art academy and is the culmination of their education.
28 graduates contribute individually to the exhibition, and all the works have different expressions and are a presentation of the individual artists’ work. The audience can therefore encounter painting over complex media installations to text statements and sculptural objects. At the same time, the exhibition presents a very unique image of what is happening on the stage of contemporary art. The exhibition is curated by Vermilion Sands. Further info here.
Lea Porsager: STRIPPED
June 12 – August 8, 2021
Consisting of new work, STRIPPED is Danish artist Lea Porsager’s major solo show at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. We are in the realm of sculpture—and at the same time somewhere else entirely, with elements such as magnetic prayer wheels, sexualized icons, digital animation, a saggy beanbag, and blades from a windmill cut into large slivers.
Situated between science and esoteric knowledge as forms of cognition that the modern order has kept apart, STRIPPED acknowledges that the imaginations that transform us come from the limits of human experience. How can we reach these limits, in order to get a glimpse of what lies on the other side of our own experience? Do we have any choice but to at least try to seek them out, if we want to transform ourselves and our relationship with the world that we are part of?
The exhibition is curated by Lars Bang Larsen and arranged in collaboration with the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. Further info here.
The World is in You
30 September, 2021 – January 16, 2022
In the autumn of 2021, Kunsthal Charlottenborg and the Medical Museion join forces to present the exhibition The World is in You. Through a blend of science, art, and history, the exhibition explores how the body and the universe are connected. The exhibition involves significant political, social, and cultural aspects; the world is in you, but how—and with what consequences?
The exhibition is curated by Medical Museion, Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), both Copenhagen University, produced in collaboration with Kunsthal Charlottenborg. Further info here.
