miart, the international modern and contemporary art fair of Milan is pleased to announce its 25th edition from September 17 to 19, 2021, with VIP preview on September 16. Organized by Fiera Milano, miart 2021 will be the first led by Nicola Ricciardi as Artistic Director and will take place at fieramilanocity and online.

miart is the Italian art exhibition with the most extensive chronological offering: from the early 20th century to creations by the latest generations, it proposes an itinerary replete with dialogues, discoveries and rediscoveries. This year, 142 Italian and international galleries, operating in 21 different countries, will bring to Milan works by established contemporary artists, modern masters, and emerging practitioners.

The 2021 edition will welcome numerous international galleries including: Piero Atchugarry Gallery (US), Clearing (Belgium & US), Charim Galerie (Austria), Corvi-Mora (UK), Marie-Laure Fleisch (Belgium), Peter Kilchmann (Switzerland), Lange + Pult (Switzerland), Lelong & Co. (France & US), Robilant+Voena (UK, US & France), Edouard Simoens Gallery (Belgium), SMAC (South Africa), and Galerie Hubert Winter (Austria), among many others.

Many of the most prominent Italian contemporary galleries will make their return as well, including Galleria Continua, Raffaella Cortese, Monica De Cardenas, kaufmann repetto, Francesca Minini, Massimo Minini, Nilufar, Franco Noero, P420, Lia Rumma, Vistamare, and ZERO…, among many others.

Moreover, a strong selection of galleries active in the promotion of historical positions and post-war art will include: Cardelli & Fontana, Cardi, Cortesi, Eredi Marelli, Frittelli, Galleria d’Arte Maggiore G.A.M., Mazzoleni, Montrasio, Repetto, Gian Enzo Sperone, and Tornabuoni, among many others.

Among the curated sections of the fair, Decades—curated by Alberto Salvadori—will explore the history of the 20th century through monographic or thematic booths presenting key moments of a specific decade—from the 1910s to the 2010s.

Special consideration will also be given to a new generation of dealers thanks to a renovated Emergent section—curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini—including exhibitors from 13 different countries: Austria, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Polonia, Perù, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, and USA.

The full list of exhibitors can be found here.

miart 2021 takes its inspiration and title from the first full-length collection by the poet Charles Simic—Dismantling the silence, published in 1971—and will pay specific attention to poetry in order to enhance new dialogues between past and present, history and experimentation, and to promote the blossoming of new forms of communication in a deeply changed art world.

The editorial project And Flowers / Words expands this research through weekly online conversations between Nicola Ricciardi and key Italian cultural figures who share an interest in the written or spoken word, including: Chiara Costa, Head of Programs at Fondazione Prada; Massimiliano Gioni, Artistic Director, Fondazione Nicola Trussardi and New Museum (NY); Lorenzo Giusti, Director, GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Bergamo; Luca Lo Pinto, Artistic Director, MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, among many others.

More partnerships and connections will take shape during the Milano Art Week (September 13–19), the rich calendar of openings and special projects jointly organized by miart and the Municipality of Milan’s Culture Department, which brings together the city’s leading public institutions and private foundations. A comprehensive schedule of all the events taking place will be presented later in July.

Lastly, in order to ensure that visitors, exhibitors and organizers can participate in total safety, the Fiera Milano Group has drawn up a protocol for the containment of the COVID-19 outbreak, which illustrates the procedures for the organization of exhibitions in full compliance with the health protection rules and protocols issued at national level.
