Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana presents “Bruce Nauman Archive for the Future,” a new weekly online appointment to explore and expand upon the themes woven into the fabric of the exhibition dedicated to one of the most influential artists working today: Bruce Nauman. Contrapposto Studies scheduled to open on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Punta della Dogana in Venice (until January 9, 2022), should the health situation allow it.
Every week a video-talk with the curators Carlos Basualdo and Caroline Bourgeois will be uploaded on the YouTube channel and on the website of Palazzo Grassi. Conceived as an oral extension of the exhibition project, this series of conversations involves artists, choreographers, art historians, performers and musicians invited to share their personal point of view on Nauman’s work, his influence on theirs and its legacy.
The order in which the videos will be uploaded has been determined using chance procedures, in recognition of Nauman’s sustained engagement and admiration for the work of the musician John Cage: Philippe Parreno (artist), Anne Imhof (artist), Boris Charmatz (dancer and choregrapher), Paul Maheke (performer), Élisabeth Lebovici (art historian), Ralph Lemon (performer), Tatiana Trouvé (artist), Teodor Currentzis (conductor), Lenio Kaklea (dancer and choregrapher), Elisabetta Benassi (artist) and Nairy Baghramian (artist).
The entire cycle will remain available on the website of Palazzo Grassi.
Bruce Nauman: Contrapposto Studies, curated by Carlos Basualdo, The Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Caroline Bourgeois, curator at the Pinault Collection, is the first in-depth presentation of the artist’s recent “Contrapposto” series including a selection of earlier works dealing with performance, sound and the artist’s studio.
Bruce Nauman: Contrapposto Studies is part of the program of monographic exhibitions that Palazzo Grassi dedicates to contemporary artists, realized with them in close collaboration. The aim of the institution is to give life to unique exhibition paths, conceived specifically for the Venetian spaces of the Pinault Collection, that offer new perspectives on the work of major artists.
The opening date of the exhibition at Punta della Dogana, Venice, is subject to change.
