One collection: Two scenarios presents a comprehensive overview of the works acquired by the Frac Normandie Rouen in recent years—since 2018—and offers two consecutive hanging schemes, whose focus and approach can equate to two distinct scenarios, two narratives.
While the first scenario displays, with sensitivity, different manners of representing and staging the body, nature and matter, the second, more conceptual in appearance, is guided by questioning the device per se and serves as a look behind the scenes.
The exhibition, designed using two specific approaches, covers 150 works produced by 62 young-generation artists, such as Pierre Seiter, Marc-Antoine Garnier, Laure Tiberghien, Raphaël Grisey, Constance Nouvel and Sébastien Rémy, as well as more senior artists on the national arts scene, including Aurélie Pétrel, Pierre Joseph, Marina Gadonneix, Julien Prévieux, Thu-Van Tran, Elodie Lesourd, and international artists, with avec Slavs and Tatar, Bloomberg & Chanarin, Ulla van Brandenburg, Anne Collier, Mac Adams and Ian Wallace. Many of the works on display relate to the major leitmotifs that steer the collection today, such as the environment through constructed space, territory and nature, the body in its aesthetic, social and political, in addition to its performative and media dimension, or the narrative in disruptive forms associated with books, writing, images and installations.
Via its two-fold approach, One collection: Two scenarios also provides the public with an opportunity to attend the dismantling of the first stage and the hanging of the second phase by the exhibition management. It is intended as a work in progress, which gives access to an exhibition backstage for the first time.
