GEMEINSAM IN DIE ZUKUNFT
July 10 – October 4, 2009
Steinernes Haus am Römerberg,
Markt 44, 60311 Frankfurt am Main, Germany
10 July – 4 October 2009
Opening: 9 July 2009, 7 pm
In the context of several local and state elections, when political programmes are focussing on empty campaign slogans and election phrases, the gap between state reasoning and tangible problems in the everyday life of the individual becomes clearly perceptible. The title of the exhibition “Gemeinsam in die Zukunft” (“Together into the Future”) – a hollow phrase from the time of the German reunification – is taken as a current newsworthy peg on which to hang the show. The exhibition presents works by thirteen artists and artist duos that investigate the relationship between society and community, as well as between group and individual interests. The unifying element will be a confrontation with ways of appealing for a collective form of participation. What kinds of incantation do media images and vocal rhetoric offer? Their acts of suggestion will be contrasted in the subtexts of the works at the very latest.
“Gemeinsam in die Zukunft” presents works by Martin Conrath & Marion Kreißler, Ulrich Diekmann & Christian Appelt, Rabea Eipperle, Petra Gerschner, Rudolf Herz, Johanna Kandl, Bjørn Melhus, REINIGUNGSGESELLSCHAFT, Michaela Schweiger, Michael Trippel, Catrine & Olaf Val, Effie Wu and Florian Zeyfang.
An extensive program of workshops, artist talks and lectures, accompanies the exhibition.
SPONSOR: “Gemeinsam in die Zukunft” is made possible by the kind support of the Dresdner
