Positions for candidates who identify as Indigenous or as a member of a racialized group
Application review begins: March 31, 2021
Emily Carr University of Art + Design is a world-renowned learning and research community located on unceded, traditional and ancestral Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territories in Vancouver, Canada. It is the only post-secondary institution in British Columbia dedicated to the education and practice of art, media and design, and in 2020 it was ranked the top university in Canada for art and design by QS World University Rankings. For more information about Emily Carr University, visit ecuad.ca.
ECU has a diverse student body that welcomes people from more than 50 countries. Each individual enriches our institution with their unique perspectives and practices. As part of our commitment to transformation and equality, we want to ensure that our faculty reflects the diversity of our exceptional students. And like many post-secondary institutions, we are working to dismantle a legacy of white supremacy and institutional racism. It’s critical that we empower scholars from all backgrounds to succeed as educators and researchers, to give our students the education they deserve and to shape the future of the university.
To realize this goal, we are seeking five new faculty members to join Emily Carr. We recognize that members of Indigenous and racialized communities have been historically underrepresented at our university, as they have at many others. With approval from BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner, we are restricting this employment opportunity to candidates who identify as Indigenous or as a member of a racialized group.
The five positions are: Assistant Professor in Communication Design / Assistant Professor in Film and Screen Arts / Assistant/Associate Professor in Interaction Design / Assistant/Associate Professor in Photography / Electronic Resources Librarian
An additional three positions will be open in late April 2021 (3D Animation, Studio Art, Print Media). Two of these three positions will also be restricted to Indigenous and racialized candidates.
Applications for all five positions will be reviewed starting March 31, 2021, and continue until the positions are filled. For more information about each position click on the linked position titles above. Interested candidates may apply online at ecuad.peopleadmin.ca.
Emily Carr University is partnering with BIPOC Executive Search to help ensure that people from historically disadvantaged groups are able to participate fully and equitably. Individuals from BIPOC communities seeking more information and support during their application process can email Candice Frederick at cfrederick [at] bipocsearch.com.

Emily Carr University is committed to creating an inclusive, accessible and barrier free workplace.
