Bern University of the Arts (HKB) offers a diverse study programme, amongst others in the division of Design and Fine Arts.
The main focus here is on independent and mentored projects. Practical, craft-oriented and theoretical teachings are accompaning those projects. The intersections could be in technical, cultural-historical or theoretical fields. The different programmes are offering joint classes.
March 15 is the deadline to apply for the following Master’s degree programmes:
Master of Arts in Design
The MA in Design is an individualised, project-based programme. As a full- or part-time student, you will choose between specialisations in Entrepreneurship or Research. Apply
Master of Arts in Art Education
This programme is aimed at aspiring educators in art and design and qualifies you for work in a range of institutional settings. Apply
Master of Arts in Multimedia Communications & Publishing
This Master’s programme will strengthen your specialist and leadership skills in either of these fields. Either of two specializations in Journalism or in Political Communications can also be studied part-time. Apply
Studying at HKB means working and living in a stimulating environment. These labs are available to all students at the location of the Design and Fine Arts Division:
Werkstatt
–A broad infrastructure, enabling students to work with materials such as metal, wood, textiles and ceramics
–An inter-material approach allows projects that incorporate varied materials and techniques
MediaLab
–The members of the MediaLab give courses, organise photography and AV trainings and advise students, staff members and teachers of the HKB on technical matters and questions of content
–The loans desk provides equipment for the creation and presentation of audiovisual and photographic projects to students, staff members and teachers of the HKB
Printing Studio
–In the printing studio you will find the HKB expertise for manual printing techniques
–After attending an introductory course and after consultation with the responsible lecturers, students can also work independently in the printing studio outside opening hours - around the clock, if desired!
Media Library
–The Media Library is the library of the departments of Design and Art, Conservation and Restoration, the Y Institute (Institute for Transdisciplinarity) and Research
–As a member of the NEBIS network (Network of Libraries and Information Centres in Switzerland), it provides access to more than seven million titles in more than 300 libraries. These titles can be searched online
