The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Visual Arts invites students to apply for admission to its Master’s programme starting in autumn 2021.
Founded in 1754, the Academy of Fine Arts is a public institution of higher education, offering BFA and MFA programmes in Fine Arts and a thriving artistic research environment.
In the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark, located in a historical building complex, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts is part of an art powerhouse, alongside the Danish National Art Library, CPH:DOX (international documentary film festival), CHART (Scandinavian art fair) and one of Scandinavia’s largest exhibition spaces for contemporary art, Kunsthal Charlottenborg. That means that students and staff at the Academy of Fine Arts enjoy natural interaction with the public through talks, seminars and exhibition programmes, while the Academy of Fine Arts’ MFA graduation exhibition is presented each year at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. The building also houses the newly-established International Centre for Knowledge in the Arts: an interdisciplinary centre for artistic knowledge and research within the fields of arts, performing arts, music and film.
The three-year international MFA programme offers four specialist professional areas: Sculpture, Painting, Media Arts and Conceptual & Contextual Practices.
The core of the MFA programme is the in-depth development of the student’s independent artistic practice, methods and the ability to maintain that artistic practice over time. The aim of the MFA programme is to afford students optimum opportunities to express their ideas and practice in an academic environment that supports experimentation, investigation and a flexible approach to working processes.
The MFA programme gives students competencies that are rooted in the material and/or conceptual practices the student chooses to study and the individual artistic practices are combined with a range of common platforms for discussion, critique and the exchange of lessons learned between students and faculty.
International partnerships are a strategic priority, and the Academy’s departments integrate international guest professors in their teaching.
The facilities offered to students at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts include workshops specialising in Ceramics, Metal, Wood, Plaster, 3D Print, Sustainable Materials, Video, Sound, Photography, Graphic Practices (Etching, Engraving and Lithography and Serigraphy and Risography) and Painting and Colour. Professional specialists provide the teaching in all the workshops.
The application window is open from February 2, 2021 to February 25 12pm (noon)
