Vinyl shows a selection of some 800 pieces from the collection of Guy Schraenen. The main of this collection comprises vinyl records and covers by artists, musicians and poets in LP, single and other formats, alongside other sound media (tapes and CDs). The exhibition shows artists (such as Hanne Darboven, Jean Dubuffet, Dieter Roth, Joseph Beuys, Laurie Anderson, Yves Klein, Roman Opalka and Hermann Nitsch) and artistic movements of the second half of the twentieth century through this complex medium, with its dual visual and audible components. A selection of 300 records can be listened to on the deck at the end of the exhibition.
Organised by the Research Centre for Artists’ Publications/Neues Museum Weserburg Bremen, Germany and by the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Barcelona, Spain.
Céleste Boursier-Mougenot
Transcom 1, is a new creation by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot. Sound and the installation of sound in space are the starting-points for his experiments, which culminate in hybrid works that are part sculpture, part installation, part musical performance, part scenography. Caught in a continuum of sounds and images – their filmed image, their reflection, and the filmed image of their reflection – visitors are plunged into a complex and continually moving reality in which they are both transmitter and receiver.
Thu Van Tran, le nombre pur
Each year, the Society of Friends commissions a work for the Foundation’s patio. This year they have chosen the young Franco-Vietnamese artist, Thu Van Tran. Echoing Marguerite Duras’ essay Le Nombre Pur, Thu Van Tran’s architecture for the patio refers to the 199,491 workers employed over the years at the Renault factory in Billancourt until its closure in 1992.
Marco Decorpeliada
First showing of the work of Marco Decorpeliada (1947-2006), a non-professional artist who produced a stream of singular creations. All his creations address the psychiatric diagnoses and pigeonholing that left him battered and worn.
