Emre Hüner’s ‘Panoptikon’, a speculating narrative arresting the flow of time, became one of the highlights of both the 10th Istanbul Biennial (2007) and Manifesta 7 in Bolzano (2008). Hüner works intensively with an archive of found photographs, books, films and images from the internet, which is put together using keywords such as modernism, naturalism, colonialism or technological progress. From his archives he develops complex, sensitive and skillful work. That may be drawings, films, animations and objects that provide the viewer with a key to a rich, reconstructed world of art historical, cinematic, literary and philosophical references.
Emre Hüner (1977, Istanbul) was educated at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan (IT). Solo exhibitions: ‘Juggernaut’ (2009) in Rodeo and ‘Bent 003′ (2007) in BAS. Group exhibitions (selection) in 2009: ‘Code Share’, CAC, Vilnius (LT); ‘Manifest Destiny’, Extra City, Antwerp (BE), ‘Younger than Jesus’, New Museum, New York (USA). In 2008: ‘Good Gangsters In Town’, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taipei (TW); ‘NeoFUTUR – Pour Des Nouveaux Imaginaires’, Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Toulouse (FR); ‘Sammeln Und Ordnen In Der Gegenwartskunst’, Solothurn (CH). In 2007: ‘Sidewalk Cinema’, Vienna (AT). In 2005: ‘Foxtrot, a site-specific project’, Isola Art Center, Milan (IT). The artist is currently in residence at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam.
The exhibition is put together by Istanbul based international curator/writer Övül Durmusoglu (1978, Ankara).
