November 11–14, 2021
For the 15th time since its first edition in 2007, STUK – House for Dance, Image & Sound and M Leuven join forces to host Playground, a live arts festival in Leuven, Belgium, from November 11–14, 2021.
Playground offers a platform to artists who work at the intersection of performing and visual arts. The programme brings together bodies and objects in an exciting combination of performance, installation, film, music and choreography. Following the cancellation of the festival in 2020 due to the pandemic, we are delighted that we can welcome the artists and the public in person again for this new edition, including premieres and first-time collaborations.
This year’s festival features new creations by Nefeli Papadimouli, buren, Marijke De Roover & Helen Anna Flanagan, Anthony van Gog and Nina Glockner. The new recreation of Ethiopia by Guy de Cointet & Robert Wilhite will be presented for the very first time. The festival also presents performances by Charlotte Bouckaert, Alice Van der Wielen-Honinckx, Violaine Lochu and Emilie Pitoiset.
Playground brings exhibitions by Alexis Gautier and Helen Cammock, and a film programme curated by María Inés Rodríguez with Steffani Jemison, Anna María Maiolino, Tessa Mars & Carolina Caycedo. We host a lecture/presentation around Conversations in Vermont: Steve Paxton, and a workshop performance criticism with Pzazz.
Playground is curated by Eva Wittocx (M), Lore Boon (M) and Steven Vandervelden (STUK).
