This focused exhibition features iconic paintings and sculptures, generously lent by from some of Miami’s most important art collectors. Explore NEXUS virtually here:

In 1950, the University of Miami inaugurated a new campus art gallery in celebration of the then-young institution’s 25th anniversary. The gallery’s original collection comprised just thirty paintings. Today, what was once a modest gallery born in three classrooms is a world-class, accredited art museum whose collection includes nearly 19,300 works that represent 5,000 years of human creativity on every inhabited continent. That museum is the Lowe, which just turned seventy!

To mark this important milestone, the Museum decided to pay tribute not only to its own dynamic growth and evolution but also that of its hometown: Miami. The resulting exhibition, NEXUS: Contemporary Art from Leading Miami Collections, showcases works by leading artists, including Carlos Alfonzo, Doug Argue, Spencer Finch, Evan Halloway, Samuel Levi Jones, Los Carpinteros, Vik Muniz, Louise Nevelson, Angel Otero, Adam Pendleton, Pat Steir, Frank Stella, Ursula Von Rydingsvard, Kehinde Wiley, and Allison Zuckerman.

The generous lenders who made this collaboration possible are Anonymous, Jayne and Leonard Abess, Luis Accorsi, the Berkowitz Family, Paul and Trudy Cejas, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Mary and Howard Frank, Rose Ellen Greene, Darlene and Jorge Pérez, Dorothy and Aaron Podhurst, Craig Robins, Mera and Don Rubell, and Debra and Dennis Scholl.

Though the Lowe’s onsite operations remain suspended due to the global health emergency, you can still enjoy NEXUS virtually. Click for a multi-sensory mobile tour that will introduce you to the works featured in the show as well as the incredible artists who made them and the remarkable individuals who lent them.
