In June, Michael Clark Company will present the world premiere of a new commission for the Turbine Hall, following the company’s public residency last summer: a unique situation in which visitors were able to watch the choreographic process unfold. The iconic British artist and choreographer will work with movement, film, light and sound to create a site-specific event, responding to the monumental architecture of the Turbine Hall and the context of the museum. Having used the first part of the project as an opportunity to explore and experiment, Clark has built upon this research to create a new work, in collaboration with Charles Atlas and Stevie Stewart. In conjunction with this event, a film screening will be presented featuring work by Michael Clark’s contemporaries, Cerith Wyn Evans and John Maybury.
Clark recently presented the work come, been and gone at the Venice Biennale (2009), The Edinburgh Festival (2009) and the Barbican Centre (2009 and 2010) to great critical acclaim
Michael Clark Company is an Associate Artist of the Barbican and supported by Arts Council England.
Tate Modern Live is curated by Catherine Wood, Curator (Contemporary Art and Performance) and Kathy Noble, Curator (Interdisciplinary Projects), assisted by Capucine Perrot, Assistant Curator.
