Au Revoir, the project by the artist Ettore Favini, arrives in France, where it will be presented during two meetings of the artist and the curators with the public.
The first event is scheduled on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the Carrè d’Art - Musée d’art contemporain in Nîmes where the Au Revoir exhibition dedicated to the project is hosted until October 31.
The second will take place in Marseille at Les Ateliers Blancarde, on Saturday, October 3, during Manifesta 2020
Au Revoir, curated by Connecting Cultures and winner of the 2019 Italian Council grant, is a participatory art project created by the artist in collaboration with textile artisans migrated from the countries bordering on the Mediterranean. A choral reflection on the complex identity of the Mediterranean today, the peoples who share its coasts, the exchanges of past and present history, and the contemporary issues, through one of its most ancient craft traditions: the weaving of a heavy cotton fabric used for transporting goods across the Mediterranean, called “jeans” from Genes, the city of Genoa. The project involves Genoa, Cairo, Chieri and Nimes, four cities united by the common thread of that blue cotton fabric and whose origins have been known the world over for several centuries: “jeans,” “jeane,” “denim.”
The project ends with a book edited and published by Connecting Cultures that through the contribution of scholars, curators, geographers, botanists, human rights specialists aims to give a different image for Mediterranean, a place of life, relationships, fauna, flora and culture in common.
The evolution of the project, in all its phases of realization set in the various creative workshops and the actions of its protagonists, is also shown in a video, curated by Roberto Paolini, which will be presented during the two events in France.
Au Revoir is supported by the Italian Council (6th Edition, 2019) program to promote Italian contemporary art in the world under the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism
