Call for contributions for #13: “On the Question of Exhibition”

PARSE—Platform for Artistic Research Sweden—is an open access artistic research journal and publishing platform, committed to the relationship between analysis and artistic research and related practices. It bridges gaps and strengthens the field of artistic research by meeting the needs for new forms of peer review, publication, events and conferences.

PARSE engages a broad range of audiences: academics, artists and art institutions and is committed to interdisciplinarity and internationalization. Our aim is to facilitate dialogue across various artistic practices and its purpose is to publish research across disciplines from a global context. 

Open call: “On the Question of Exhibition”—deadline November 30, 2020
The PARSE summer 2021 issue “On the Question of Exhibition,” edited by Mick Wilson, Jyoti Mistry, Kjell Caminha, and Nick Aikens, will take as its broad agenda an exploration of the nature, role and tendency of exhibition. We are interested in works that seek to apprehend or interrogate different aspects of the exhibition as a broad genre of practice, including:

(1) the competing ontological and epistemological conceptions of exhibition as manifest in contemporary exhibition practice, exhibition studies and exhibition histories; (2) the exhibition as research action, object and site across disciplines; (3) the translations and relays of exhibition within online and algorithmic domains; (4) the interchanges between exhibition and what has been variously termed socially engaged, socially embedded and expanded practices; (5) the question of the political imaginary at work within different constructions and operations of exhibition.

The deadline for submission of proposals / abstracts with respect to art works / papers / essays (in any medium) is November 30, 2020. Please send your submission (500 word abstract/proposal) together with a short bio (150 words) to parse [​at​] konst.gu.se. The deadline for full draft content is January 31, 2021. More information here.

“Intersections”—release of PARSE Journal #11
With contributions from scholars, artists, and writers working within a wide range of disciplines, “Intersections” undertakes an exploration of the nexus of gender, race, sexuality and coloniality in contemporary artmaking, scholarship, and artistic research. Intersections concludes a longer research theme within PARSE on “Intersectional Engagements in Politics and Art.”

Through articles, essays, photography, video, fiction, poetry, and transcribed conversation, the Intersections issue reflects socially engaged artistic practices related to memory, history, embodiment and alterity. Contributors include Anna Adeniji, Barby Asante, Josette Bushell-Mingo, Nikki Comninos, Lindiwe Dovey, Jens Haendeler, Jessica Hemmings, Anna Lundberg, Nina Mangalanayagam, Monica L. Miller, Sanna Samuelsson, Maxine Savage, Ezra Shales, and Paulina Sobczyk.

The issue is edited by Kristina Hagström-Ståhl, Jessica Hemmings, and Jyoti Mistry. 

“Migration”—release of PARSE Journal #10 
The journal issue on the topic of “Migration” is comprised of articles, essays, visual art, fiction, poetry, and podcasts. It contains contributions from artists, writers and critical migration and borders scholars inquiring into the embodied, affective, performative, material, visual, and spatial politics of cross-border human mobilities. The contributions, while counter-narrating and counter-visualizing dominant discourses and forms of representation of migration, address the crisis of representation regarding migration.
