This autumn, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be exhibiting, in collaboration with the H+F Collection, the ‘Han Nefkens Fashion Award 2012.’ The Korean designer Rejina Pyo will present her Structural Mode collection, derived from her extensive research into fashion and art, in the museum’s Willem van der Vorm Gallery.

The work that Rejina Pyo (Korea, 1983) will be exhibiting in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is entitled Structural Mode. She has produced seven items especially for this exhibition, all of which are derived from her graduation work. Each of these pieces combines an elegant gown with built-in panels of mixed material. Once again, it is a collection that balances on the boundary between wearable clothing and pieces of art, and melts elements from sculpture with those from the world of fashion. For this collection, the designer was inspired by her lengthy study into the possibilities of combining fashion and art. Pyo is particularly interested in abstract sculpture, visual and modern art.

Winner of the Han Nefkens Fashion Award 2012
Pyo received the Han Nefkens Fashion Award for her graduation collection for MA Fashion Womens Wear at the Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London. The dresses Pyo designed for this collection are long, elegant and colourful. She combines them with organic sculptures in wood, which, because of their rough appearance, provide an unusual contrast with the elegant gowns. The prize connected with the award consists of a presentation in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and prize money, of which a portion is intended as a commission for the exhibition.

H+F Collection
Han Nefkens has been connected with Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen since 2001 via various foundations. H+F Mecenaat was founded in 2005 as an exclusive five-year collaboration between Han Nefkens and the museum. Its aim is to stimulate at an international level contemporary art and artists and to generate attention for them among a new public.  In 2010, this collaboration was renewed under the name of ‘Fashion on the Edge’ and since then has concentrated on stimulating experimental developments in the fashion world. José Teunissen supports this initiative with her expertise and is the curator of the Structural Mode exhibition.
