The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is an artistic-scientific institution with the goal of preserving and researching the Bauhaus heritage. The Foundation engages in extensive international collaborations and is well-established as a research institution. With last year’s opening of the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, we are able to reach a broader audience than ever.
The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is looking for a research associate in the field of Digital Humanities / Philology for a two year contract working on a new Bauhaus research project funded by the State of Saxony-Anhalt’s Ministry of Economics, Science, and Digitization.
In cooperation with the Bauhaus University Weimar, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation will devote itself to the largely unexplored textual heritage of the Bauhaus over the next few years. In preparation for a long-term joint edition and research project, the assessment of archives and estates around the world as well as two sample editions in a two-year pre-project phase at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation should create the foundations.
We are looking for a committed individual who has prior experience indexing and evaluating archives and estates and in cultural / philological database management. Ideally, after several years of work in comparable projects, you have in-depth expertise in the use of the latest software for processing text and image data in humanities research. Prior exposure to the Bauhaus, its history and related research, and an interest in interdisciplinary research at the interface of philology and design, are desirable. The job holder will primarily deal with the indexing and evaluation of archives and estates worldwide, especially in North America. Willingness to travel, including extended trips, and on-site work are prerequisites.
Your tasks:
– Indexing and evaluating written estates and archives of Bauhaus members worldwide
– Creation of a corpus of text for further research
– Database management
– Implementation of sustainability standards
– Technical infrastructure support
Your profile:
– Master’s degree in the field of digital humanities or editorial philology or a related field with corresponding further training and / or experience
– Several years of professional experience in the area of indexing and evaluating written estates and archives
– In-depth knowledge of the latest software for processing text and image data
– Relevant experience in data management and with different data formats
– Fluent in German and English
– Interest in interdisciplinary Bauhaus research
– Highly motivated, excellent teamworking and communication skills
– The working time is 40 hours (full time) per week with flexible working hours, including occasional weekends.
Compensation is based on the requirements of E 13 TV-L (Collective Agreement for German civil service employees). Fixed term till September 30, 2022.
