Miguel Palma
Modern Discomfort
Curated by Miguel von Hafe Pérez
8 March–26 May 2013
Miguel Palma (b. 1964, Lisbon) takes over the forms and the narrative flow of a modernity that is in continuous interpretive mutation in order to work with concepts such as degeneration, failure or progress. The fascination he finds in the icons representative of classical modernity, such as automobiles, aviation, astronomical observation, architecture and technology in general turns into an episode of anxiety that does not reproduce a desired world, but rather the desire for a world, conveyed in an expansive curiosity that questions that which is real through the use of installations, videos, drawings and performances, such as the one that he will be presenting at the CGAC on the occasion of this opening.

The Mind on Fire
Curated by Anthony Spira
22 March–16 June 2013
The Mind on Fire is the first institutional exhibition in Spain by American artist James Welling (b. 1951; Hartford, Connecticut, US). Comprising a hundred and fifty works, the exhibition recreates some of the artist’s seminal photographic shows from the early to mid nineteen-eighties, charting the development of his abstract and experimental photographic language. The show includes collages, paintings, notes and ephemera related to this early period, all of which culminated in an iconic series of Aluminium Foils. These small-scale gelatin silver prints of minutely crumpled aluminium foil offer abstract, minimal images, which have been likened to starry skies or lunar landscapes.
This exhibition is presented in partnership with MK Gallery, Milton Keynes, UK, and Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, Canada.

1 March–16 June 2013
This exhibition presents a selection of the works recently acquired for the permanent collection of the CGAC or added to the centre’s archives through the deposit of the ARCO Foundation Collection. Continuing with its established mission, this exhibit reflects the special attention that the centre has always devoted to the Galician artistic scene, constantly in dialogue with the international context, and more specifically, with Latin America, on which it regularly relies for the construction of its collection.
