The Department of Art & Art History at Hunter College seeks a Professor of Painting (open rank) for both undergraduate and graduate level courses. A knowledge of the conceptual and technical aspects of painting and drawing, and a comprehensive understanding of historical and contemporary art histories is required. Consideration will be given to painters with a strong drawing practice.
Responsibilities include ongoing creative research; graduate teaching and advising in the MFA program; and working with undergraduate students in beginning and advanced painting courses. Active participation in the administrative operations of the department and college is a requirement.
Qualification requirements
We seek artists with an active and substantial professional profile. Candidates should have a strong exhibition record, college level teaching experience on both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a willingness to teach in conjunction with curatorial initiatives. An MFA degree or a BA plus significant professional experience is required.
