MUSEION of modern and
contemporary art Bolzano
Via Dante 6
39100 Bolzano, Italy
MUSEION is to host the first solo show of Klara Lidén’s works in Italy. The vast area on the fourth floor will present various new works, along with recent pieces by the artist from public and private collections. Installations, photographs and videos capture actions and performances that reveal the core concerns of her work: an exploration of the physical, psychological and social limits and conventions of both public and private space; an obsession with recycling and transforming urban materials; physical gesture and use of the body. For the occasion, Lidén has created a number of new Poster Paintings, the signature works that have earned her international renown.
As she often does in her solo shows, Lidén also presents new works that draw on the surrounding urban context of Bolzano, like a series of sculptures made from pieces of road surface: the artist literally brings the street into the venue. This artistic gesture forges a singular dialogue between the city and the museum, forcing a merge that subverts the established relationship between inside and out, a relationship that is both proclaimed and limited by the transparency of the museum’s architecture. Museion’s programme thus continues with its exploration of the languages of contemporary sculpture, the invitation to Lidén bringing a new, disruptive opportunity to question its role as a museum and explore art’s re-appropriation of architectural space.
Curated by Letizia Ragaglia
The Klara Lidén exhibition in MUSEION will be accompanied by a catalogue in three languages (Italian/German/English) with texts by K8 Hardy, John Kelsey, Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Letizia Ragaglia, produced by Mousse Publishing.
Related events: guided tour of the exhibition with MUSEION director Letizia Ragaglia at 11am on Saturday 5 October as part of the programme of the national Contemporary Art Day. A concert will take place following the tour with musician Caroline Mayrhofer, inspired by the works on show.
