Galerie Chantal Crousel is pleased to present Eternal Ruins, the 9th solo exhibition of Thomas Hirschhorn at the gallery, from March 7 to April 11, 2020. The exhibition includes a new series of “Chat-Poster” referring to Simone Weil’s work.
“The Notion of ‘Grace’ counts for me, in my work, and I always want to cut openings for Grace in my work: Grace establishes itself—out of Art. Art as such is what allows ‘Moments of Grace’ to arise. Those ‘Moments of Grace’ give testimony to Art’s power as transformatory act. Grace offers itself—from itself—Grace cannot be planned or provoked. To touch Grace I must be awake, alert, sensitive and pay attention. I need to be ready to accept ‘Moments of Grace’ in their Precariousness and Uncertainty, I need to acknowledge that Grace cannot be measured or fixed, Grace is not something to document and cannot account for a result. Grace stands clearly beyond success or failure. There can be Grace in failure too: ‘Grace fills empty spaces but can only enter where there is a void to receive it, and it is grace itself which makes this void’ (Simone Weil).”
—Thomas Hirschhorn, Aubervilliers, 2020.
On the occasion of the exhibition, Thomas Hirschhorn and political scientist Laurent Jeanpierre will be in conversation at Galerie Chantal Crousel on Thursday, March 19 at 6pm. The entrance is free, within the limit of the available seats. Please confirm your attendance by e-mail at rsvp [at] crousel.com.
