The Master of Fine Arts Program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University is currently accepting applications for our round two deadline of May 15.

For students interested in a contemporary, research-based studio practice, the SMFA at Tufts MFA program provides advanced individual skills and rigorous academic discourse, while fostering creative collaboration and mentorship with internationally recognized faculty. During the two-year program, you’ll join a vibrant and supportive multi-disciplinary community committed to making art that shapes our global society and collective future.

Coursework
Our curriculum integrates studio practice with seminars and colloquia that explore relevant ideas in the visual arts, cultural theory, and practical and critical skills across diverse mediums. Students refine a practice that is free to cross disciplines in the studio or across academic areas of the greater university, in service to a body of public-facing work that will be displayed in their Thesis Exhibition.

Studio Practice
Your studio practice is developed by rigorously pursuing the implications of your work and is supported through access to facilities and faculty across studio disciplines and bodies of knowledge. You will deepen and expand your practice through refinement of skills and exploration of the demands of your vision. You’ll work closely with staff and faculty as you take risks and watch your practice grow.

Resources
Students at SMFA at Tufts can take advantage of all studio resources and work with faculty across disciplines on our campus in Boston. As the art school embedded within Tufts University, our students engage in research across liberal arts and sciences to inform their work. And our partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston provides unparalleled access to exhibition opportunities and a network of art-world professionals. This unique combination of resources grants our students access to a broad network of peers, professionals, technical and research resources, travel and teaching opportunities, and studio facilities. Our graduates go on to exhibit their work around the world, to lead in contemporary creative fields, and to teach at top art universities.

Apply now to join our community of working artists.
