The MIT Department of Architecture launches its spring 2020 public program on February 10 with a film screening of Jill Magid’s The Proposal, followed by a discussion with Caroline A. Jones, Timothy Hyde, and Ana Miljački. On February 24, Farrokh Derakhshani, Director of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, will give a special lecture, “Architecture in Dialogue: The Aga Khan Award in its Fourteenth Cycle,” followed by a panel discussion with Gülru Necipoğlu, Nasser Rabbat, and James Wescoat.
Architect Christine Binswanger of Herzog & de Meuron will join us for a special Architecture and Urbanism lecture on April 9.
On April 16, Architect Ellen van Loon of OMA will present the 30th Arthur H. Schein Memorial Lecture.
Designer Thomas Heatherwick, recipient of the 2020 Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts at MIT, will present a keynote lecture on April 25.
Our main lecture series, Building Consensus, explores a diverse range of work through different forms of practices with a focus on the commonalities and collective agendas by which architects and designers can share the issues that motivate their work. A February 13 book event highlights the latest publication from Mimi Hoang and Eric Bunge of nArchitects. On February 20, visiting faculty Iñaqui Carnicero and Lorena del Río present their practice, Rica Studio. On February 27, Virginia Black, Gabrielle Printz, and Rosana Elkhatib will discuss their feminist architecture collaborative. On March 5, Erion Veliaj, Mayor of Tirana, and Rafi Segal will discuss the process of transforming Tirana into a greener and more humane city. On March 19, Carmody Groarke present their London-based architecture practice. On April 23, Anna Puigjaner of MAIO will discuss her work uniting theory and practice. Sasa Zivkovic and Leslie Lok of HANNAH Design Office will join us on April 30. On May 7, Chris Leong of LEONG LEONG presents the NOMAS lecture.
Spring 2020 features three exhibitions in our Keller Gallery: Play Room, from the Critical Broadcasting Lab opening February 14; Atelier Morphology: Making Materials for Adaptive Matter by Maroula Zacharias opening April 3; and the annual MIT Architecture Student Show opening May 1.
