The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) is pleased to announce the launch of two new websites for its research professorships in art and design. You can now visit the Lectorate Art Theory & Practice, headed by Prof. Dr. Janneke Wesseling, and the Lectorate Design, headed by Dr. Alice Twemlow, online!
Lectorate Art Theory & Practice
The lectorate Art Theory & Practice (KTP), headed by prof. dr. Janneke Wesseling, started in 2007 at the University of the Arts in The Hague. The lectorate KTP aims to advance the integration and synergy of theory and practice in art education, and to stimulate students and teachers to engage in research.
On this website you can find information about the lectorate, and about its research activities. You can also find our full archive of events and publications.
Lectorate Design: Design & the Deep Future
The Lectorate Design aims to nurture a robust, design-focused research culture within the KABK learning environment and through the channels that connect KABK and Leiden University.
Launched in 2017, the lectorate is centered around a research project titled “Design & the Deep Future,” led by Dr. Alice Twemlow, which examines an array of historical, contemporary and speculative responses to design’s complicity with climate crisis, through topics such as: design and expanded timescales; radical matter; compositionism; future fossils; design and disposal; repair and adaptive re-use; digital detritus; nuclear waste; and space junk.
This website contains information about the lectorate, its research groups, symposia, exhibitions, courses, and publications, and a range of reference materials and featured projects relating to the central theme, Design & the Deep Future.
Both lectorates are also connected to PhDArts international doctoral programme, at the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA), Leiden University, where Dr. Janneke Wesseling is a professor and director of the programme, and Dr. Alice Twemlow is an associate professor.
The websites are designed by Lesley Moore and developed by Digital Natives. Many thanks also to Vera van de Seyp, Lara Chapman, Alice Ladenburg, and others, who contributed to the writing, design and production of these sites.
