In 1982 Joseph Beuys (1921–1986) met the Norwegian press before his exhibition opening at the Henie Onstad. Sitting inside his exhibition Multiples and Prints he calmly talked about his ideas. Exerpts of this press meeting was recorded by an amateur and found its way into the museum archives at Høvikodden. For the first time this amateur-clip will meet an audience when it is released digitally on Henie Onstad Art Channel together with professional recordings and virtual guided tours from the closed exhibitions, such as the inaugural triennial New Visions.
The Henie Onstad Art Channel was made as a response to the ongoing situation where the physical museum has to stay closed. In addition to several gems from the archives, virtual tours from the closed exhibitions New Visions: The Henie Onstad Triennial for Photography and New Media and Picasso 347 are streamed on the website. New material is uploaded every week.
Even though images on a screen will never live up to the physical experience of them, the Art Center wishes to contribute to important digital encounters with art. Most of the audio visual works that are available on the channel have originally been commissioned by the Art Center and the institution will keep on working to commission more and new work.
