The Graphic Design program is requesting a full-time position of Professor or Associate Professor of Practice in Graphic Design to begin fall 2020.
The successful applicant will be required to teach 6 courses per academic year (3 courses per semester) in practical, technical and conceptual undergraduate courses in Graphic Design, such as Typography with focus on Arabic and Latin bilingual design, editorial design, information design, and supervise senior thesis and graduation projects in the field of expertise. The position also carries administrative responsibilities at the department, school, and university levels. The initial appointment is for a five-year term subject to review in the fourth year of appointment.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will hold an MA, MFA or PhD in Graphic Design and have 10 years of professional experience in the graphic design industry in the Arab world and/or globally. The candidate must have a solid understanding of the design market in Egypt and the Arab world. At least five years of successful teaching experience at the university level is strongly preferred. Experience with cross-disciplinary collaboration is essential.
The candidate should reflect the ability to adapt to technological and philosophical shifts in the design industry, and broad training that includes strong foundations in typography, aesthetics, and conceptual development applied across media. An ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of university teaching experience beyond graduate experience. Applicants should display evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills also.
The successful candidate will teach all levels of design every academic year. Applicants should also have a thorough knowledge of design history, theory, and practice. Experience with cross-disciplinary collaboration is fundamental. Evidence of extensive and successful professional practice, including experience in various design media and production environments, is required.
