Asian Contemporary Art Week (ACAW) is a dynamic platform that connects major New York and Asia-based museums, galleries, and art professionals to present cutting-edge exhibitions, innovative projects, and provocative dialogues. Returning to New York this fall for its ninth edition from October 22 to November 2, ACAW introduces FIELD MEETING as its signature program to contextualize the synergy of exhibitions organized by ACAW Consortium member museums and galleries citywide.

FIELD MEETING is a two-day forum bringing together artists, curators, scholars, and institutional leaders active in Asia and beyond to present lectures, discussions, and performances related to their work in the region. The event will be hosted by Asia Society on Sunday, October 26, and Monday, October 27. A full program schedule is forthcoming.

FIELD MEETING seeks to replicate the intimate experience of a studio visit on a communal scale through discussions that will examine individual art practices, taking into consideration the influence of local politics, history, activism, ethics, traditional artistic practices, and cross-pollination of subcultures in creative processes. Critical inquiries into the making and thinking about art in Asia also have profound implications in re-examining global contemporaneity. Other key issues addressed through the program such as generationalism and the quarter-centennial of the World Wide Web, impact Asia in diverse, meaningful ways quintessentially different from a Euro-American experience. The participation of Asian artists in international exhibitions and biennials has grown considerably, yet there remain huge gaps in these rapidly establishing connections. FIELD MEETING will address this challenge and enrich the dialogue among art professionals based in Asia and U.S. institutions to forge partnerships for meaningful future collaborations. Ultimately not subscribing to a “catch-up” role, it facilitates thoughtful processes through which the future can be critically and radically imagined.

Curators, scholars, and museum professionals will receive priority RSVP. Please register here with full name, title, and affiliation.

This event is organized by Asian Contemporary Art Week Director, Leeza AHMADY with contributions by Xin WANG.
