Bergen Kunsthall is pleased to announce our forthcoming programme for the period autumn 2014–summer 2015. Beginning with the first exhibition in Scandinavia of acclaimed American artist Robert Overby, it is followed by new exhibitions and projects by Ciara Phillips, Knut Henrik Henriksen, HAiK, Will Benedict, Julia Wachtel, Steven Claydon, Urbanomic, Simon Ling and Ane Hjort Guttu.
As part of a fresh approach to our programmes across the building, we announce two new strands of activity:
In our NO.5 space we launch an innovative new programme dedicated to revisiting and re-presenting important works and exhibitions previously shown elsewhere in the world. Initiated in response to the increasing acceleration of both the production and reception of art over the last decade, NO.5 provides an opportunity to slow down, focus on and look again at particular works, exhibitions or fragments of exhibitions. Bergen Kunsthall will commission a new critical text to accompany each of these re-presentations. Ciara Phillips is the first artist in this strand, followed by Julia Wachtel in October and Steven Claydon in January 2015.
Elsewhere in the building we also introduce a new programme for our Upstairs space. The Norwegian fashion collective HAiK have been invited as the first guests in what will become an occasional series of short residencies for organisations, collectives and groups. They will be followed in the new year by Urbanomic, the independent publisher and arts organization.
Offsite, we present Knut Henrik Henriksen: Notes to Stones at Bergen City Hall.
In January we are excited to announce a major two-part exhibition: I AINT THE NOING UV IT IM JUS ONLE THE SHOWING UV IT. Part 1 takes the form of a group exhibition, curated by Martin Clark in collaboration with artist Steven Claydon, while Part 2 will comprise a solo exhibition, the largest to date, by British painter, Simon Ling.
Finally, in the spring we present a major new exhibition and film commission by Norwegian artist Ane Hjort Guttu.
