In recent years, the Frans Masereel Centrum has become one of the most challenging and inspiring environments for visual artists to investigate printed matter in all its aspects, or to embrace it as part of a broader artistic practice. Critics, writers, curators and academics also use our facilities, to conduct theoretical research in the private context of an active arts center.
Every year, an international, intergenerational mix of around 50 artists and critics is selected by a jury to stay and work in the Frans Masereel Centrum for 3 or 6 weeks. No prior knowledge of printmaking techniques is required.
All residents are accommodated in one of our fully equipped cottages. Staff members are present to assist and help you with any technical questions. Each residency program also includes individual meetings with visiting tutors and peer-to-peer exchange. The focus lies on development, creation, dialogue and cooperation. Artistic out-of-the-box mentalities and multidisciplinary approaches are encouraged.
Discover the various possibilities of our residency program here and apply before May 21!
Artistic program
Besides an upscaled exhibition program, thanks to its recent extension, the center will launch two ‘freshly baked’ initiatives in 2020, curated by newly appointed director Stijn Maes.
For the first time, we welcome three Affiliated Artists: Emmanuelle Quertain, Peter Rogiers and Wim Cuyvers. Also, as part of the long-term series Curating the Woodland, we will soon activate a newly commissioned work by Fabrice Samyn. The coming weeks and months, we will gradually unveil more about these promising collaborations on our social media and website.
In the meantime; stay tuned—stay inside—stay healthy—stay creative—stay critical and let’s get through this!
