California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) relaunches its art residency for the fourth year, adding an official desert excursion to the schedule along with workshops and lectures by esteemed visiting artists such as Dena Yago, Rachel Yezbick, and American Artist. In partnership with Hauser & Wirth and the School of Art, this five-week residency offers an opportunity for emerging and/or mid-career artists working in all disciplines to advance their work in an immersive, transdisciplinary studio environment.
“This year we are particularly interested in new media and emerging technologies, and artists who are thinking through critical aspects of the tech landscape,” says Emma Kemp, Program Coordinator.
New-media artists, designers, curators, photographers, filmmakers, writers, and inter/trans-disciplinary thinkers are invited to apply for the 5-week residency in the summer of 2020, which will include woodworking and welding workshops. Previous visiting artists include: Joshua Citarella, Nikita Gale, Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer, Ann Hirsch, Michael Ned Holte, Jillian Mayer, Nina Sarnelle and the Institute for New Feeling, Shirley Tse, Stephen Wright, Raivo Puusemp, and many more.
