Applications for Frieze London, Frieze Masters and Frieze Sculpture 2020 are open until Thursday, January 23, 2020. The fairs will take place in The Regent’s Park from Friday, October 9 to Sunday, October 11, with Previews on Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8. Frieze Sculpture is open throughout the summer and closes in October.
Celebrating their most international edition to date, the 2019 fairs were critically acclaimed for their exceptional diversity and quality, and welcomed record attendance by curators and museums from around the world. Works by Marc Camille Chaimowicz, Paulo Nazareth and Patrick Staff at Frieze London and Jagoda Buić at Frieze Masters were acquired as gifts for the UK national collection through the Frieze Tate Fund supported by Endeavor. In addition, the Contemporary Art Society Collections Fund at Frieze acquired works by Zanele Muholi for the Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery.
Frieze Masters and Frieze London 2020 welcome gallery proposals for the main section at both fairs, in addition to special sections Focus and Spotlight, as well as Frieze Sculpture.
Frieze London is a vital platform for international contemporary art, with galleries presenting their most forward-thinking artists and imaginative presentations, enhanced by curator-led programmes, museum funds and artist prizes.
The fair’s Focus section features galleries up to 12 years of age and is advised by a peer-led Selection Committee. Galleries will be assessed primarily on the quality, originality and ambition of their proposal. This year, only solo and dual-artist presentations will be considered, with the opportunity for galleries to apply for a shared stand.
Frieze Masters brings together six millennia of art history, from exquisite antiquities, to Old Master paintings and luminaries of the 20th century. The fair welcomes proposals of works of art that are made before the year 2000, but the dateline can extend up to 2010 if the artist was born before 1940.
Laura Hoptman (Executive Director of The Drawing Center) will once again curate Spotlight, the fair’s celebrated section dedicated to solo presentations of pioneering 20th-century artists.
Frieze Sculpture is a major public art display at the heart of London. Curated by Clare Lilley (Director of Programme at Yorkshire Sculpture Park), Frieze Sculpture will return to Regent’s Park in 2020 with a summer opening; artworks will remain on view until the fairs close in October.
