Head of International Patronage
Protocinema is pleased to announce the appointment of Tansa Mermerci Ekşioğlu as Head of International Patronage. With her extensive relationships and experience, Ekşioğlu is responsible for expanding support for Protocinema by growing its Board of Trustees, International Commissioning Committee and contributors. Tansa Mermerci Ekşioğlu is the co-founder and managing director of SPOT Projects, as well as an art collector and patron. She is a member of SAHA Association and on Tate’s Middle East North Africa Acquisitions Committee from 2015-2018

Opening January 10, 2020, Protocinema will present How shall we dress for the occasion?, a group exhibition curated by Ulya Soley and Mari Spirito with artists Deniz Tortum, Kathryn Hamilton, Chulayarnnon Siriphol and Pınar Yoldaş at 601Artspace, New York, within the Protocinema Emerging Curator Series. How shall we dress for the occasion? focuses on the relationship between mortality and extinction, and increasing obsessions with future scenarios. 601Artspace partners with artists, curators and other not-for-profit organizations to produce unconventional exhibitions.

Protocinema 2020 Screening Tour
Announcing Asli Seven as Curator of Protocinema 2020 Screening Tour. In alignment with its goal of expanding dialogue and improving mutual understanding between individuals and across regions, Protocinema programs an annual video-art screening with mission-aligned partners throughout the world. Asli Seven is a writer and curator living and working between Istanbul and Paris. Her research and projects focus on infrastructural and intangible forms of violence embodied within landscape and built environment, with an emphasis on fieldwork and collaborative artistic processes.
Protocinema is a cross-cultural art organization that commissions and presents site-aware art around the world. Based in Istanbul and New York, we produce critical installations of the highest artistic quality that are accessible to everyone. Protocinema evokes empathy towards understanding of difference across regions through: exhibitions, commissions, public programing and mentorship. Founded in 2011 by Mari Spirito, Protocinema is a non-profit 501(c)3, free of “brick and mortar,” sites vary to respond both to global concerns and changing conditions on the ground.
