Letizia Ragaglia will continue to lead Museion for the next four years. The decision was taken recently by the Founding Board of Museion: “It is a message of continuity that confirms the trust that we, as the new board, place in the director, acknowledging her outstanding work over the last few years. We want Museion to continue on its path of developing its mission as a venue for critical thinking on contemporary culture,” commented Marion Piffer Damiani, President of the Museion Foundation.
Under Letizia Ragaglia’s leadership since 2009, Museion has presented a series of solo exhibitions of artists whose work epitomises the current directions in contemporary art. It has staged the very first solo shows in Italy of artists like Carl Andre, Rosemarie Trockel and Isa Genzken, alongside members of more recent generations like Monica Bonvicini, Klara Lidén, Rossella Biscotti, Danh Vo, Ceal Floyer and Tatiana Trouvé. The focus has therefore been on presenting bold projects, as well as prioritising the collection, which in recent years has been continuously added to and activated in conjunction with other major European collections.
The ambitious artistic programme and continued commitment to innovative forms of mediation have been rewarded over recent years by a steady increase in visitor numbers and a reputation as one of the top contemporary art institutions in the Alpine and North Italian regions.
The guest curator formula has also been confirmed for the next four years: every year an external curator presents a themed exhibition. Since 2012 this position has been occupied by Rein Wolfs, now Director of the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle in Bonn, Germany, the critics and curators Carol Yinghua Lu and Liu Ding, and Pierre Bal-Blanc, Director of the Contemporary Art Center in Bretigny, greater Paris and currently a member of the curatorial team for Documenta 14.
