The Art and Craft department is committed to the making and understanding of contemporary art by cultivating specialist activities within an interdisciplinary environment. Our BFA and MFA study programmes encompass medium and material-based artistic practice in Ceramics, Print and Drawing, Metal and Jewellery, Textile. The department also offers an MFA Programme in Art and Public Space.

MFA in Medium- and Material based Art
This master programme brings together four specialisation areas: Print and Drawing / Ceramics / Metal and Jewellery / Textile. The programme is structured to stimulate collaboration and innovation across specialisation areas. Our main focus is the development of each student’s individual art practice. The students are assigned a main tutor and allocated a workspace at one of the four areas of specialisation. Teaching and learning methods include individual tutorials, hands-on workshops, lectures and seminars, group critiques, and student led study groups. Exhibition Practice and Writing Practice are integrated components of the MFA programme. As part of the master studies students gain insight into the methods and practice of artistic research and development. The learning environment is international, and the studies accommodate English speaking students. The master programme is a two-year, fulltime course.

Oslo National Academy of the Arts is Norway’s largest college of higher education in the field of visual and performing art with over 550 students and currently offers 24 study programmes in six departments: Art and Craft, Design, The Academy of Fine Art, The Academy of Dance, The Academy of Opera, and The Academy of Theatre.

Oslo National Academy of the Arts is a public state funded institution with no tuition fee for students.
