On Monday, December 16, 2019 at 1pm EST, Program Director Carol Padberg and Nomad MFA faculty member Caroline Woolard will be hosting a webinar on the field-based Nomad Interdisciplinary MFA program.
This 20-minute presentation will feature an overview of the program’s curriculum and how the low-residency structure operates. Scholarships, financial aid and admissions procedures will be included. Student and alumni work will be highlighted. This presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. The webinar is designed for prospective students, and art faculty who might recommend the program to their alumni and graduating seniors.
The field-based Nomad MFA has developed reciprocal relationships with art communities in North America and Central America including Miami, El Salvador, rural New Mexico, Minnesota, Oakland, New York City, New York’s Hudson Valley, Hartford, and most recently, Oaxaca, Mexico. Program residencies occur at these locations. The MFA curriculum provides artists deeper ways of engaging with their own location as well as learning about the culture and history of communities in the Americas. Coursework addresses today’s most pressing cultural, environmental and social issues through embodied, ethical learning strategies. Art and ecology, the craft to code technology spectrum, and solidarity economics are built into the curriculum, as is the development of pragmatic skills that artists use such as knowing how to develop project proposals, write competitive grants, administer budgets, and document work. This MFA is a good fit for artists from a variety of disciplines, including socially engaged art, art and ecology, interdisciplinary practices, art and pedagogy, craft traditions, and more.
