From 12 September 2015 through 3 January 2016, MAGASIN, Centre National d’Art Contemporain in Grenoble, will present an individual exhibition by the architect and artist Didier Fiùza Faustino.
A multifaceted approach, ranging from installation to experimentation, from visual art to the creation of multi-sensorial spaces, mobile architecture and buildings: this exhibition, titled Des Corps & Des Astres (Bodies and Stars), offers an individual as well as a collective field. With a critical eye, Faustino forms an exhibition structure like an incessant proliferation of shapes spanning the 1700-square-metre art centre in Grenoble. These hybrid shapes and narratives question the organisation of social systems that govern exchanges between individuals and hence our ability to perceive the political system. Faustino’s subversive stance invites us to question the political role of creation as well as our own position as subjects and citizens. He leads us to reconsider the boundaries between private and public, between personal and communal.
While Didier Fiùza Faustino has just announced the design and implementation of a library and cultural centre in Mexico City for Foundation Alumnos47 in Mexico City, MAGASIN’s monographic exhibition crowns 20 years of research by the Franco-Portuguese architect on the relationship between the body and space, dystopia and biopolitical systems. Since 1995, Didier Fiùza Faustino’s many utopian creations and projects have taken on an architectural form, a logical progression from his initial training, and encompass installation and experimentation, the creation of subversive visual works and spaces conducive to stimulating the senses. Characterised by their fictional dimension, critical stance, emancipation from codes, and ability to offer unprecedented experiences, several of his works are now part of the collections of great institutions: MoMA; Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation; Serralves Foundation; Fonds National d’Art contemporain (National Contemporary Art Collection); FRAC Centre; Musée national d’art moderne / Centre de création industrielle (Centre Pompidou).
The exhibition Des Corps & Des Astres (Bodies and Stars), curated by Reiko Setsuda (Culture & Window Group manager, Head of Exhibition Planning at Le Forum, House of Hermès, Tokyo), will offer a selection of works from 2007 to 2015, as well as a monumental site-specific installation called Vortex Populi.
