The Great Monster Dada Show

This major exhibition presents the historical works of the Dada movement with a contemporary side program pinpointing how the avant-garde ideas are of relevance today. The exhibition presents more than 200 works by 43 artists, among others Jean (Hans) Arp, Theo van Doesburg, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Elsa Hildegard Baroness von Freytag-Loringhoven, Hannah Höch, Marcel Janco, Francis Picabia, Man Ray, Kurt Schwitters and Sophie Taeuber-Arp, together with contemporary artists such as Siri Hjorth, Pernille Mercury Lindstad, Marthe Ramm Fortun, Are Mokkelbost, Marcela Lucatelli and Harold Offeh.

Picasso 347
January 3–May 3, 2020
The exhibition presents the remarkable series of etchings and engravings, the Picasso Suite 347, which consists of 347 works by Pablo Picasso (1881–1973). The works are among the last hand-signed etchings and engravings Picasso ever created, and has only been presented in its entirety once before, also then at the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, in 1981. In addition to Suite 347, the exhibition will also present Picasso’s work in the Government Quarter in Oslo, Norway.

New Visions:
The Henie Onstad Kunstsenter Triennale for Photography and New Media
1st Edition: February 21–May 17, 2020
In line with the avant-garde legacy of Henie Onstad, the triennial aims to foreground artists that are working experimentally with photography. The triennale will present photography also extending to sculpture, installations, video and VR. Referencing László Moholy-Nagy’s manifest A New Instrument of Vision (1932) and its subsequent impact on 20th-century experimental photography, the title of the triennial is NEW VISIONS.
The first edition will be curated by Susanne Østby Sæther in collaboration with Behzad Farazollahi and Christian Tunge

Niki de Saint Phalle
June 19–September 20, 2020
The retrospective exhibition will showcase the oeuvre of one the greatest icons of the 20th century, Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2020) and how she challenged the existing stereotypical women’s roles, violated aesthetic conventions and was an outspoken advocate of women´s and civil rights and a champion of public art.

The Henie Onstad Collection

The Henie Onstad has invited Norwegian artist Elise Storsveen (1969- ) to curate a presentation of the Museum’s Collection. With keen interest in the artist books, Storsveen will create connections between the printed matter and the more iconic works from the 1960s–1980s in the collection.
Nils-Aslak Valkeapää
October 22, 2020–January 1, 2021
The first retrospective exhibition about the Sami artist Nils-Aslak Valkeapää (1943-2001). The exhibition will showcase Nils-Aslak Valkeapää as an innovator of Sami joik and visual art, as well as a Nordic pioneer in poetry, artist books and sound art.

Otobong Nkanga
November 13, 2020–February 21, 2021
The inaugurual winner of the The Lise Wilhelmsen Art Award Programme, Otobong Nkanga will be presented in a solo exhibition at the Henie Onstad. Her multi-disciplinary practice, which spans tapestry, drawing, photography, installation, video and performance, connects threads that reveal the entanglements of bodies, land and natural resources.
