Historical Wounds and Infinite Repair: Kader Attia in conversation with Brian Kuan Wood
Leading Berlin-based French-Algerian artist Kader Attia speaks with MACP Director of Research Brian Kuan Wood about how social systems and institutions address historical wounds in an infinite process of repair. How can a Paris bar/club such as La Colonie, which Attia founded in 2016, also be a trans-cultural and intergenerational space for decolonializing knowledge?

What about Activism? Book launch with Irmgard Emmelhainz, Steven Henry Madoff, María Belén Saéz de Ibarra, Terry Smith, and Nato Thompson
With the global rise of a politics of shock driven by authoritarian regimes that subvert the rule of law and civil liberties, the new book published this September by Sternberg Press and produced by MA Curatorial Practice, What about Activism?, asks more than twenty leading curators and thinkers about creative forms of protest and advocacy that cultural institutions can offer. Join editor and MACP Chair Steven Henry Madoff in a discussion with some of the book’s contributors.

Curatorial Survival Strategies Amid Capitalistic Malaise and Ideological Fear: a lecture by Zoe Butt
MA Curatorial Practice inaugurates its annual international residency program with a lecture by Vietnam-based curator Zoe Butt, whose curatorial work involves maneuvering through government bureaucracy and surveillance, self-censorship, media ignorance, and art market values. She’ll discuss the constant challenge to find the passion, engage in collective risk, and build the trust necessary to construct artistic communities.

Reclaiming Artistic Research: Book Launch with Lucy Cotter and Guests
Join editor Lucy Cotter and authors from the new book Reclaiming Artistic Research. Through conversations with twenty leading artists and curators, the book explores specific ways that artists define their research across many fields of inquiry.

Model Minority and Model Majorities: Furen Dai, Christopher K Ho, and friends
In collaboration with Asia Art Archive in America, artists Furen Dai and Christopher K Ho, with special guests, present a series of propositions responding to the strangeness of Asian and Asian-American lived experience in relation to historical meta-narratives and notions of “home”—country politics, history, and language.

A Thanksgiving recital by renowned pianist Daniel Gortler 
In a special appearance, celebrated Steinway pianist Daniel Gortler presents an evening of works by Schumann, Chopin, and Debussy.

Search Sweet Country, a newly commissioned performance by Christian Nyampeta, followed by a conversation with curator Maria Lind
If love songs about loss and overcoming are part of our history, Christian Nyampeta wants to know what happens to that history when we translate, remix, re-record, and recompose them. Specially commissioned by MA Curatorial Practice, Search Sweet Country summons sculptures, images, sounds, and movement for a lyrical performance about longing and belonging.

The Master of Arts degree in Curatorial Practice at the School of Visual Arts is a two-year program that focuses on intensive professional training, with a thorough grounding in the study of art and exhibition history, research, and theory. Students work with leading experts in an academic setting and in internships around the world, providing continuous opportunities to gain practical experience, acquire intellectual breadth, and develop a professional network in the field. The program takes full advantage of the vast number of arts institutions in New York City and the professionals working here and visiting, who constitute our distinguished faculty and weekly guest speakers.
