Tenure-track position in painting

The School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University announces a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor within the expanded field of Painting. The school is seeking an artist who: explores contemporary issues related to painting; is actively exhibiting nationally/internationally; and demonstrates teaching abilities with potential for pedagogical excellence within specialized core courses and across interdisciplinary undergraduate and MFA programs. Special attention will be given to candidates who bring both critical and technical knowledge into their work and teaching. Candidates with hybrid practices or additional expertise in other media are encouraged to apply. Advanced degree or equivalent is required. Experience teaching at the college or university level is strongly preferred.

The new hire will teach two classes per semester, conduct graduate critiques, and maintain a vibrant studio practice. Courses taught might include introductory and advanced painting and drawing, as well as topic-driven courses within our Concept Studio curriculum. Additionally, they will be actively engaged as part of a dynamic faculty, taking part in the governance of the School through committee work, and helping to steer pedagogical development. A private studio will be provided, with access to the School’s myriad physical, digital, and technology-based facilities.
