After the vibrant celebration of its 25th anniversary, Artissima—the only fair in Italy exclusively devoted to contemporary art—will return to the Oval pavilion in Turin from November 1-3, 2019, under the artistic direction of Ilaria Bonacossa.

Exhibitors
Don’t miss the opportunity to fall in love with the latest developments in art through the works of more than 1,000 artists presented by 208 galleries from 43 countries. The four sections chosen by our selection committee (Main Section, New Entries, Dialogue, Art Spaces & Editions) will gather both established and emerging contemporary galleries. Of our three curated sections, Present Future will feature emerging talent, Back to the Future will rediscover pioneers active between the 1960s and the 1990s, and Disegni will showcase all forms of contemporary drawing.

Theme
Setting off on a wave of new impulses and energies, this year we have selected a timely and emblematic theme—desire/censorship—that is reflected in a new visual identity: a black visual diaphragm perforated by six circles, offering glimpses of photographic images along with fragments of text, suggesting other interpretations. A semantic drift that alternates common meanings with forbidden, unspeakable overtones. An invitation to experience Artissima, and the contemporary art that feeds it, as a seductive space to explore and to discover.

Special projects
Artissima will also feature three special initiatives: Hub Middle East—a new project in collaboration with Fondazione Torino Musei that sets out to offer an overview of galleries, institutions and artists active in a geographical area of central importance for developments in contemporary society; Artissima Telephone—an exhibition project curated by Vittoria Martini for the OGR Officine Grandi Riparazioni offering a survey of the use of the telephone as an art medium; Abstract Sex: We don’t have any clothes, only equipment—an innovative show of Artissima conceived by Ilaria Bonacossa and curated by Lucrezia Calabrò Visconti and Guido Costa. Occupying the spaces of Jana, a historic fashion boutique in Turin, the exhibition investigates the importance of desire in the most recent artistic and cultural research, through videos, sculptures, works on canvas, paper, and objects presented by the galleries taking part in Artissima 2019.
