Living Kunsthalle is the first major show organized by Kunsthalle Praha before the opening of its own building in 2021.

Conceived as a festive night of encounters Living Kunsthalle will transform the iconic New Stage of the National Theatre in Prague into a true artistic laboratory. Throughout the night, moving from space to space, visitors will discover performances, sound sculptures, projections, and experimental works coming to life in every corner of the theatre. The works selected for Living Kunsthalle share a common theme: sound and its visual representation. The six participating artists explore different fields and media, ranging from sculpture to video, from installation to drawing, from music to science. Through their own sensitivity and perception, the artists strive to capture sound visually, physically, and live. While doing so, they will bring Kunsthalle Praha to life.

From 7pm until 12am, Living Kunsthalle will present works by internationally renowned artists performing in Prague for the first time, and two new commissions by Czech artists. The programme will start on the main stage with Candy Shop – the Circus, a performance by Lina Lapelyte for voices, video, acoustic and electronic music reworking “dirty rap” into lullabies. It will be followed by the screening, in the foyer, of Présage, an ephemeral chemical landscape created live by the artist/scientist Hicham Berrada and set to music by Laurent Durupt.

At the same time, Landing by Adéla Součková, a live drawing performance with video projection and voice will take place in the mezzanine. Later, the main stage will host SYSTEMA OCCAM by Xavier Veilhan, a sound piece combining the artist‘s visual vocabulary with the singular work of electronic music pioneer Eliane Radigue. Artist Haroon Mirza will end the evening with Emerging Paradigm, a multi-media performance consisting of an eclectic mix of light, sound and videos animated through a variety of technologies. Throughout the evening, Centones by Roman Štětina, a site-specific installation inspired by the ancient Greek poetic form of the Cento, will be on display in the café.
