MISS READ: The Berlin Art Book Festival 2019 is taking place May 3 – 5, 2019 and will bring together 304 exhibitors. Throughout the weekend, a wide selection of international publishers, art periodicals, artists and authors will be featured. In conjunction, the annual Conceptual Poetics Day explores the imaginary border between visual art and literature.
With this year’s special focus on Scandinavian publishers, MISS READ will be composed of a series of lectures, discussions and book launches with the common mission of exploring the boundaries of contemporary publishing and the possibilities of the book.
Additionally, together with MIT Press, MISS READ is publishing an anthology called Publishing Manifestos. The expanded and revised edition features about 77 key texts of critical engagement with publishing from protagonists of the field: AND Publishing, Oswald de Andrade, Archive Books, Art-Rite, Rasheed Araeen, Tauba Auerbach, Michael Baers, Bibi Bakare-Yusuf, Ricardo Basbaum, Derek Beaulieu, Bernadette Corporation, Anita Di Bianco, Riccardo Boglione and many more. The book will be launched in the context of MISS READ STAGE on Saturday, 3 pm.
Program
Friday, May 3, MISS READ STAGE will host an introduction into the Scandinavian self- publishing scene with six short presentations and a Q&A. This is followed by a talk by Jesper Fabricius, and the mini symposium Publishing Architecture organized by ARCH+, featuring Sandra Bartoli, Olaf Grawert, Cedric Libert, Carlo Menon, Erica Overmeer, Marc Wigley and Mirko Zardini.
On Saturday, May 4, the 7th Conceptual Poetics Day will explore the imaginary border between visual art and literature. The program will feature readings, lectures, performances and book launches by Alice Cannava (Occulto), Natalie Czech, Alex Hamburger, Karl Holmqvist, Bernadette O’Toole, Sharon Kivland (MA BIBLIOTHÈQUE), Cia Rinne, Paul Stephens (Convolution Journal) and others.
On Sunday, May 6, the MISS READ STAGE will hold lectures, and panel discussions, and a concert with Sergej Vutuc, Sanni Est, Cornelia Lauf, Radu Lesevschi & Florin Flueras (PUNCH), Melissa McCarthy (Sternberg Press), Jonathan Monk, Christian Philipp Müller, Tabea Nixdorff (Spector Books), Alt Går Bra, and others.

This years focus features a collection of Scandinavian publishers, authors and artists, like & soWalter (Stavanger), Alt Går Bra (Bergen), Alt Går Bra (Bergen), B-B-B-Books (Stockholm), Bonnie (Stockholm), House of Foundation (Moss), hurricane publishing (Vejby), Hverdag Books (Oslo), Karl Holmqvist (Berlin), KLD Repro (Copenhagen), Lodret Vandret (Copenhagen), Matias Faldbakken (Oslo), OEI (Stockholm), Pamflett (Bergen), per jonas lindström (Oslo), Scandinavian Kunstforum (Oslo), Space Poetry (Copenhagen), sverre strandberg (Oslo), Tekstbyrået / Halvor Haugen & Nina Schjønsby (Vollen), Timglaset (Malmö) and Trema Förlag (Stockholm) among others and introduces the audience into their publishing practice with lectures and talks during the three days programm.

Founded in 2009, MISS READ is Europe’s Art Book Festival dedicated to building community and creating a public meeting place for discourse around artists’ books, conceptual publications and publishing as practice.
