An international, post-MFA AIR fellowship in Painting, Printmaking, Photography.
The VCUarts Qatar Painting + Printmaking artist-in-residence program is a 10-month, teaching and studio AIR fellowship for recent MFA graduates from international art graduate programs. The residency is awarded to up to 2 MFA graduates who demonstrate a strong studio practice, a commitment to enrich VCUarts Qatar’s community, and a dedicated capacity towards teaching undergraduate fine arts majors. The successful applicants will become artists-in-residence for the 2019–20 academic year at the VCUarts Qatar campus in Doha, Qatar.

Residency period: August 2019 through mid-May 2020.
Eligibility and qualifications:
–Recent MFA (or equivalent) graduates from international fine art programs are eligible to apply. Students must have graduated no earlier than 2017 and be within three years from graduation.
–Applicants must have a valid driving license.
Artist-in-residence receives:
–24-hour access to a shared studio located within VCUarts Qatar as well as access to all Painting, Printmaking, Photography Studios.
–Part-time teaching experience, mentorship for teaching.
–Solo or two-person exhibition in Doha with catalogue.
–Artists-in-Residence are eligible for a 30,000 dollar stipend, plus additional emoluments including housing and auto.
–Return plane ticket from home location to Doha, Qatar.
Artist-in-residence responsibilities:
–Teach 1–2 courses in the Painting + Printmaking Department each semester. Courses may include Basic Drawing, Painting, or Printmaking. Depending on the artist-in-residence’s skill set, there may be a possibility to teach one special topics course of their own design.
–Maintain office hours for each course taught, participate in departmental/school critiques, lectures, events, and mentor department majors.
–Assist with freshman recruitment into the Painting + Printmaking major.
–Develop a body of work within their studio in preparation for a solo or two-person exhibition at the end of the residency.
–Give a public lecture.
–Donate 1 work to the VCUarts Qatar collection.
