The Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague offers 7 exceptional master programmes and the opportunity for a PhD track in the Arts in collaboration with Leiden University.
Master Artistic Research (2 years / full-time)
Visual artists with an interest in research processes and critical reflection are offered an intensive curriculum for the development of their artistic research practice. The constantly evolving programme places at it centre the exploration of each student’s creative trajectory and stimulates the critical reflection on processes, inspirations and their material result. Master ArtScience (2 years / full-time)
This unique programme offers students the opportunity to transform their professional art practice through a truly interdisciplinary curriculum that oscillates between the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) and the Royal Conservatoir. ArtScience is also closely linked with Leiden University’s Media Technology Master. In this context, art and science are considered as a continuum out of which developments of new art forms and artistic languages occur. More info.

Master Industrial Design (2 years / full-time)
Using artistic research, cultural consciousness and technical innovation in the industry as a basis to work from, the programme educates designers to become professionals who critically investigate and shape the industrial field. Students will be working on design products and projects with social relevance in collaboration with partners and industries inside and outside the academy. More info.

Master Interior Architecture (INSIDE) (2 years / full-time)
INSIDE is a programme that takes an interdisciplinary approach to the field of interior architecture. INSIDE is educating future designers for an innovative practice in spatial design with a focus on urgent current social and cultural challenges. INSIDE also places a strong emphasis on collaborations with key architectural offices and researchers. More info.

Master Non Linear Narrative (2 years / full-time)
This programme merges investigative methods of journalism and forensics with processing technologies of computer science and visual arts into a contemporary, avant-garde design discipline: the Non Linear Narrative. It analyses the relations of complex socio-political issues, and how they can be communicated to a broad audience. The programme repositions the graphic design discipline in the changing professional landscape and extends it with new responsibilities towards society. More info.

Master Photography & Society (2 years / full-time)
The programme of Photography & Society aimes to develop students into socially-engaged photographers with an 21st century attitude. The curriculum allows students with an active interest in the technological, political, environmental and social role of the photograph to develop impactful strategies through research. The core of Photography & Society is image-making, but the programme also challenges students to foster encounters beyond photographic practice and utilise photography as a means to take part in global debate. Type and Media (1 year / full-time)
Students will expand their existing knowledge of type design and typography. Students work intensively in small groups under the guidance of expert and enthusiastic teachers from the permanent and visiting faculty. Courses include calligraphy exercises, stone carving, non-Latin scripts, the usage of state-of-the-art font editing software as well as sketching techniques all leading up to the creation of new letters. PhD track
Artists and designers can also apply for participation in a doctoral programme in artistic research. A PhD research training programme for visual artists and designers is offered at Leiden University in collaboration with KABK through PhDarts. More info.
