Zabar Visiting Artist: Rochelle Feinstein

Rochelle Feinstein is a painter who works across a variety of media, and in all of her work she draws on the attitudes, attributes, and conventions of her painting practice.  She has exhibited her works nationally and internationally, has written about art and artists, and has lectured at universities, project spaces and foundations throughout in the US and Europe.

Image of an Image, the fourth and final installation of Feinstein’s multi-venue retrospective, is on view at the Bronx Museum of the Arts through March 3, 2018. The earlier chapters of her multipart retrospective were shown at venues in Europe in 2016-2017: In Anticipation of Women’s History Month at the Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva, Switzerland; I Made A Terrible Mistake at the Lenbachhaus Stadtische, Munich, Germany; and Make it Behave at the Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover, Germany.  Her most recent exhibition of new works, Rainbow Room/The Year in Hate, was installed at Campoli Presti Gallery, London, from October through December, 2018.

Feinstein’s works are represented in numerous public and private collections, and have been featured in Artforum, Texte zur Kunst, TimeOut, Tema Celeste, ArtNews, Art in America, BOMB, Flash Art, The Paris Review, The New York Times, The New Yorker Magazine, and many other publications. She has been awarded fellowships and grants from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, The Foundation for Contemporary Arts, The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, the Joan Mitchell Foundation and Anonymous Was A Woman.  She was a recipient of a 2017-2018 Rome Prize Jules Guerin Fellowship in Visual Arts, American Academy in Rome. In June 2017, Feinstein became Professor Emerita of painting and printmaking at Yale School of Art, Yale University. Feinstein was born in the Bronx and lives and works in New York City.

About the Judith Zabar Visiting Artists Program
In November 2007, Hunter College received a generous commitment to establish the Judith Zabar Visiting Artist Program Fund. The Fund has allowed Hunter to bring a series of internationally recognized artists to campus to work directly with students in the MFA program, in master classes, critical seminars, and private tutorials, providing students with the unique opportunity to interact with top practitioners in the field. Zabar Visiting Artists also present public lectures where they discuss their work, engage in conversation with members of Hunter’s faculty, and with Hunter’s broader student community and the general public.
