March 9, 2019-March 24, 2019
Silo 6, Wynyard Quarter, Auckland
Wastescape is an immersive installation by British artist Gayle Chong Kwan that explores New Zealand’s relationship with food, especially dairy, through craft techniques and waste. The work employs thousands of used plastic milk bottles and photography to create otherworldly landscapes.

A collaboration between Mokopōpaki and Te Tuhi
Part One: The True Artist Helps the World by Asking for Trust
March 23, 2019-May 19, 2019
Te Tuhi, 13 Reeves Road, Pakuranga, Auckland
Works by PĀNiA!
Co-curated by Gabriela Salgado, Artistic Director, Te Tuhi; Mokopōpaki; PĀNiA!; and the artists
Te Tuhi and Mokopōpaki are pleased to present a series of solo and newly commissioned collaborative works by anonymous, über-cool-girl, artist-about-town, PĀNiA!
PĀNiA!’s exhibition at Te Tuhi includes her Pakuranga Customs House or Attitude Arrival Lounge: an immigration and border control office, complete with passport-issuing facility, shaped as a well-known mahi whai or Māori string figure whose walk-through walls represent the change of heart necessary for trust. Paying homage to American artist Bruce Nauman (b. 1941, Indiana), PĀNiA! produces her own unique take on an iconic work by Nauman, where one fantastical presence plays with another. The exhibition also includes one of his experimental films from the 1960s.
Part Two: The Dutch Embassy
May 1, 2019-June 22, 2019
Mokopōpaki, Ground Floor, 454 Karangahape Road, Auckland
Works by PĀNiA!, Yllwbro and A.A.M. Bos
The collaboration continues at Mokopōpaki with The Dutch Embassy. Here PĀNiA! in association with Yllwbro and A.A.M. Bos propose a counter-narrative to the nationally sanctioned 2019 commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the landing in Aotearoa by James Cook, exploring the cultural consequences of a “what if?” situation in reference to the first documented European to sight our islands, the Dutch merchant Abel Janszoon Tasman.
Faisal Abdu’Allah: Live Salon (Auckland)
May 1, 2019-May 5, 2019
Pā Rongorongo, 42 Wellesley St West, Auckland
During his first visit to Aotearoa New Zealand, UK artist and barber Faisal Abdu’Allah will present Live Salon (Auckland), a five-day performance within the heart of the city that will offer passers-by the opportunity to have their hair cut for free. Reflecting on his life experiences and the relationship between being both an artist and a barber, Abdu’Allah will invite the audience to discuss the challenging questions of belonging and community that shape his practice.
