Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico and The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in Italy are proud to announce that Latin American artists Pedro Ignacio Alonso (Chile, 1975); Marcelo Gomes (Brasil, 1962); Andrés Mignucci (Puerto Rico, 1957); Diego Osorno (México, 1980); Jorge Pérez Jaramillo (Colombia, 1964); and Laura Anderson Barbata (México, 1958) have been selected to participate in the prestigious Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Arts & Literary Arts Residency next year.
This is the third year Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo and The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center have come together in their support of mid-to late- career artists from Latin America to create opportunities for international dialogue and exposure through the Bellagio Center Residency program.
Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo is honored to carry out the preselection process for Latin American candidates for The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in Italy. The collaboration builds upon Fundación Jumex’s generous and longstanding Grants and Scholarships Program, created by Eugenio López Alonso, to support artists and organizations committed to production, research and promotion of contemporary art. Over the past ten years, Fundación Jumex’s impact has reached beyond artistic circuits to broader communities and institutions.
To help select the artists, Fundación Jumex appointed a nominating committee and jury of distinguished representatives from various countries in the region in different disciplines, including professionals in the fields of music, film, literature, architecture and the visual arts. The nominating committee identified mid-career and established artists who represent the highest standards in varied disciplines. The 2018 committee included Henry Vicente Garrido, LIGA espacio para arquitectura DF, Enrique Larrañaga, Adriano Pedrosa, Agustin Pérez Rubio, Cecilia Fajardo-Hill, Cecilia Mello, Carolin Overhoff Ferreira, Julio Villanueva Chang, Alberto Barrera Tyszka, Sara Schulz, Eric Namour, Mónica Mayer and Victor Lerma from Pinto mi raya collective.
With years of expertise and experience, Fundación Jumex is an ideal partner for The Rockefeller Foundation to help conceptualize and implement the search for candidates in partnership with The Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Residency Fellowship. Through the museum’s research programs for its exhibitions and publications, as well as through its partnerships and grants support, Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo is in close contact with its local arts community as well as those of other Latin American countries.
Both Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo and The Rockefeller Foundation know that the arts can improve struggling communities and both share the desire to build bridges for a better understanding of different social issues through an approach that brings together ethics and aesthetics.
This collaboration is one of several new international collaborations initiated by The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center to bring leading contemporary artists across the globe to the multi-disciplinary residential program that serves artists, scholars and practitioners.
